BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

I had the opportunity to visit the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Houston a couple of weeks ago. It was really spectacular. We had arrived just in time for the service and we’re invited to stay. The attendees were very welcoming and filled me in with some of the details of the temple.

This temple is the first traditional Hindu Mandir of stone and marble to be constructed in the United States. While the limestone came from Turkey and the marble from Itally, the structure was hand carved in India and then shipped to Texas and assembled.

I plan on going back to the BAPS Swami Narayan Temple some time but I will be taking a better lens.

Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012: A Slideshow

Had a great time at Texas Frightmare Weekend, as usual. I had some reservations about the new venue, but it worked out fine. As to the hotel, I might pass on that part next year and stay somewhere else, but that’s a story for another time.

Texas Frightmare Weekend: Norman Reedus

This guy is on fire. People love him on the Walking Dead and, of course, in Boondock Saints. And to top it off, he is a really nice guy. Had the pleasure to talk to he a few times durning Texas Frightmare Weekend. He was even willing to let me take a candid photo of him while we were hanging out by the elevators after the VIP party, but I got shot down by his handler.

Not really, but it does seem like it. If you haven’t meet Parrish, he is a great guy and if this whole acting thing had never worked out, he would be an excellent film historian.

The gang at TFW did an outstanding job with the prom. Even though there was no Zombie Walk this year, the prom totally made up for it. Not only could you get your Prom photo with PJ Soles, Nancy Allen, or Anthony Michael Hall, but several celebs also came to hang out including Charlie O’Connell, Keith David, and Clint Howard.

Yesterday as tornadoes ripped through the DFW Metroplex, we had two shelter-in-place alerts at SMU. For the library, students were escorted down into the basement for protection. Luckily, everyone was safe on campus. Here, students watch the news on a laptop during shelter-in-place in the basement of the Fondren Library during the tornado warning.

The Reddit Bump

I happened to be looking at my stats on Flickr yesterday and noticed this huge spike in my views. Now, I’m no Trey Ratcliff or Thomas Hawk, but I get a fair number of views daily, but this was extreme.

Turns out a reddit reader has linked to my photo of an abandoned Memphis Farmhouse in the Abandoned Porn section. That’s all it took to get over 1000 views in 24 hours.

Flowers on the First Day of Spring

Last night we got a real downpour from storms in North Texas. Most of area received between 2.5–5.3 inches. These flowers were able to survived the beating from the over 4 inches of rainfall to hit the SMU campus. All in time for the first day of Spring.
