SXSW: Helping to Keep Austin Weird for 25 years. I love the costumes and other ways people go to promote their product, band, service, app, or whatever at South by Southwest. For example, to help promote the Wayne White documentary, “Beauty is Embarrassing,” this guy wondered the streets of Austin with this giant head. To get the word out about webcomic “Zombies Eat Republicans,” Zombies roamed 6th Street. Turntable.fm had women dressed up as… as… Okay, I’m not really sure what they were dressed as, but their head were cute and were willing to dance as a bunch of photographers took their photo.

Of course, there was Trey Ratcliff, who arranged this little photowalk, but I also meet a nice woman from DC, the women of Shutterstock, and guy who was attacked by the magazine racks on the corner of 6th Street. Yeah, I saw it. They jumped out at him. They were sick of being ignored by all the SXSW attendees. There was even the guy from  Texas Trike Pilots who gave me a ride (for free, I might add) to show me his favorite spot for photos.

Welcome to Austin, Texas: Live Music Capital of the World! This weekend was Trey Ratcliff’s annual photo walk in Austin. Originally over 500 people signed up to attend, but fewer than 150 braved the rain and the SXSW crowds to attend. I drove down from Dallas that morning to attend. Mother Nature greeted me with rain the entire way down. Between that and the parking, I arrived late to the walk… again. I was able to join the group and get some great shots of Austin in the rain.
