Greater New Orleans Bridges or the Crescent City Connection, as they are now known.
These twin cantilever bridges were designed by Modjeski & Masters, Inc. Construction on the first bridge began in 1954 and opened in 1958. The second bridge didn’t begin construction until 1981. Due to delays, the second span didn’t open until 1988.
This photo was taken from the deck of the Gretna-Canal Street Ferry, for my personal photowalk during ImagingUSA in New Orleans.

The Sun shines on DeGolyer
Stitched panorama of the DeGolyer Library lobby at Southern Methodist University.
Finally got a chance to take a break and use my new pano head with my Sigma 8mm Fisheye. The pano head is replacing my old one that missing the L bracket. Makes stitching with AutopanGiga a breeze. I was able to shoot 6 shoots, download into Lightroom, do basic processing and stitch the pano in less than 15 minutes.

The Old Fairview Water Tower
This iconic water tower was constructed in the 1960’s as part of the young Fairview, Texas. While no longer in service, this landmark was often used to direct people to Fairview. “You could see the water tower from miles away and that’s how you knew where Fairview was.” At the time of its construction, it served less than 400 residents.
Personally, I love the look of this old tower. It’s somewhat of a contradiction to the new Village at Fairview shopping center and the new Fairview Town Hall, but it’s a great reminder of the town’s past.

After a nice little storm in Allen, I was driving home to be greeted by this beautiful sunset. I just had to stop and take a few pics.

Did you know that Southern Methodist University’s McFarlin Memorial Auditorium was the University’s third permanent building?
Originally opened in 1926 to meet the University’s pressing need for a chapel and auditorium that could accommodate the entire student body. Now it serves as the site for many SMU events such as commencement, graduation, the renowned Willis M. Tate Lecture Series, and other student programs.
If you are wondering about the “Education, Religion, Patriotism” above the entrance, it was to honor SMU students killed in World War I.

The T Motel and Your Next Horror Film
While on our way back from Houston this past weekend, I noticed this giant “T” on the other side of the road. I asked the wife if she would mind if we back tracked back and did a drive by.
“So you can take pictures?”
“Yep!”
She knows me so well.
We stop at the abandoned motel in this little town of Angus, Texas. Population 334. I get a few shots of the “T” and the motel and notice next door is an abandoned gas station. Old pumps, broken windows, and dirty restrooms. I’m thinking, this is great location for a horror film. While getting some shots of the gas station, I see the cars.
Recent model cars. . .
Clean cars. . .
Behind the motel…
I look at my wife. She sees them too. Okay, maybe it’s too much like from a horror film. Time to go…
Oh, and if you are interested in leasing it for your next horror film, call Robert Phipps with Blue Sky Country at 972-351-4710.

Sharktoplushie Attacks Twitter
Sometime last night, Monte Cook tweeted that he wanted a Sharktoplushie (you know, the Sharktopus plush of the main character from the Roger Corman production & Syfy hit Sharktopus) and pointed to my Sharktoplushie on Flickr. Next thing I know, people are retweeting and the stats on Flickr just skyrocket. Thanks Monte Cook. Hope you get your Sharktoplushie.

“You want me to do what?”
Malcolm McDowell is not really big on photographer Vanessa Lua’s request to make a “scary” face on the red carpet at Texas Frightmare Weekend.
Even more pictures from the Texas Frightmare Weekend Red Carpet are on my Flickr stream.
